Websites Explained
Every website has to have a domain name, and web hosting in order to function. But it can be confusing if you have never come across them before.
What is a domain name?
A domain name is the address of your website - what people type into the bar at the top to visit your site, for example, http://www.google.com or http://www.mjsolutions.net . There are a variety of different extensions (from country specific like .co.uk to generic ones like .com and .org), and you can pick any name you want to, provided it is available. The cost of these are relatively inexpensive, and when included in the one monthly payment we charge, it is typically £2.50 a month for most domains.
What is web hosting?
Web hosting is where your website is actually stored on the internet. Web pages are actual files, as are the images that you see on websites, and these have to be located somewhere on the internet - you pay for the space to have them stored, and the traffic of people visiting them. The cost of this varies depending on the nature of your website, but we don't normally charge above £20 a month.
What about maintenance?
Website content quickly goes out of date. If you need your website maintained, there are a number of options: using a well known Content Management System like Wordpress, using our own Content Management System, known as "MJ Control", which would be tailoured to your website, allowing you to do things like update image galleries or upload songs, or you can cut all the hassle of doing it yourself, and let us do it for you. One maintenance submission a month (typically), and we charge £10 a month.
